Seven years ago today we were, at some point, having a celebratory lunch with Ken’s brother and sister-in-law at a restaurant in Piazza Navona in Rome. We were celebrating his brother’s 60th birthday!
Later that evening, all four of us also threw coins in the Trevi Fountain….so far I have been the only one that returned.
This was our second trip there but their first. We spent a good part of the day on the hop on/off bus…..not my idea of touring a city, but we didn’t have a lot of time there with them and it was the best way for them to see an overview of what that city has to offer…..which to me is A LOT! I don’t know that BIL and SIL will ever return, but we loved that city. We had plans to go back one day……..
On our two trips there together, Ken and I walked just about every inch of it I think. We’d leave the hotel early in the morning and just go off in a different direction each day….so much to see, so many cafes to stop at for a glass of wine or cappuccino and of course the food! It’s a great city to just sit and people watch. An evening in one of the piazzas would provide more entertainment than anyone could want. It’s a city full of atmosphere and you can’t help but get caught up in it. We visited churches and museums and all the major tourist sites but the best places were the ones we found off the beaten path where you could enjoy watching everyone coming and going.
Ken was really good a noticing all the little things…pointing out this and that. He usually had the camera and it was always a surprise once we were home and I’d be looking through the pictures…..what was this and where was this taken….quite often there were pictures of cats or dogs….that found us, or more so him, and had parked themselves under our table….they just knew that he’d find something to give them.
Just one of the many great vacations we had…..I’m so glad that we did!
